Creating formulas that include names
Creating and constructing formulas can sometimes be very complicated, especially when you use several functions in the same formula or when multiple arguments are need for a single function. The use of named constants ranges can make this task and using functions much easier by enabling you to use names and descriptions that you have created that clearly identify a value or range of values. An argument is information you provide to the function so the function can work properly. A named constant is a name you create that refers to a single, frequently used value, you can view HERE to learn more about constants. A named range is a name you assign to a group of related cells, you can view HERE11 for more details.
How to use a use a constant or name range in a formula.
- Open Excel 2007.
- Place your cursor in the cell in which you want to create your formula.
- Next, you will need to type the name of the range/constant. As you type, Excel will provide a list of possible values. Double-click a suitable value to include it in your formula.
- Press Enter. The cell should now display the result of the formula.
If you would like to create several named constants at the same time, create two adjacent columns, one should be listing names and the other listing the values corresponding to the names. Select both columns. Select the Formulas tab and then click Create from Selection. The Create Names from Selection dialog box should now appear. Click a check box to indicate which column or row to use for the name. Click OK. Click Name Manager to see the constants listed in the Name Manager dialog box. Use the same procedure to create named ranges.
