Using the SUM function to Sum a Range of Values in Excel

For this example, we have a range of values in our worksheet that need to be added, with the sum appearing in cell A11. To do this, use the SUM function, which returns the sum of all numbers in a range of cells.
SUM(number1, number2, …)
number1, number2, …: From 1 to 30 arguments to be summed up.

How to Sum a Range using the SUM function

  1. In cells A2:A10 enter any values from 1 to 100.
  2. In cell A11 type the following formula: =SUM(A1:A10).
  3. Press Enter.

You should now be set. You can also use the Autosum feature this achieve this as well. This tip is compatible in Excel 97, 2000, 2003 and 2007.

To sum several ranges, simply refer to each of them, separated by a comma, using the SUM function from the previous tip. Example, =SUM(A2:A10,B2:B10,D2:D10). This can be useful if you have prices in one column and taxes in another column.
