How to use the REPT Function to represent data graphically

One neat trick that I recently discovered in Excel is how to represent data graphically using the REPT Function and a symbol font. What the REPT Function does is that it will repeat a specified character a given amount of times. Below, we will use an example to demonstrate how this is done.

How to use the REPT Function to repeat a certain character:

  1. Enter your data as shown in the image or use your own data.
  2. Select Cell B1 and type the following formula: =REPT(”n”,A1).
  3. Use the fill handle to copy the formula as needed.
  4. Change the font of the text in Column B to the Wingdings symbol font so that it will have the appearance of what we have in our example.

You should now be set! This tip is compatible in Excel 97, 2000, 2003 and 2007.
